About Angel's Trumpet

Angel's trumpet is an ornamental shrub with large, hanging flowers, widely grown in Brazilian gardens for its decorative effect. The whole plant contains tropane alkaloids (such as scopolamine and hyoscyamine) — the same compounds found in Solanaceae family plants already documented by the ASPCA as extremely toxic — capable of causing severe neurological effects in dogs and cats.

Symptoms of poisoning

  • Mydriasis (dilated pupils)
  • Dry mouth and difficulty swallowing
  • Tachycardia
  • Agitation, disorientation, and hallucinations
  • Tremors and seizures
  • Coma and death in severe cases
