About the French Bulldog
Descended from miniature English Bulldogs brought to France by Nottingham lace workers during the 19th-century Industrial Revolution. In Paris, the breed developed its signature "bat ears" and became a darling of the Parisian bohemian scene, later re-imported and popularized in the United States.
Today it is one of the most popular breeds in the world, especially in big cities, thanks to its compact size and very low exercise needs — a couple of short daily walks are enough. It is extremely affectionate, playful, and well suited to apartment living, forming strong bonds with its family.
The extremely flattened muzzle (brachycephaly) that defines the breed standard causes significant breathing difficulties: French Bulldogs should not be exposed to intense heat, vigorous exercise, or prolonged stress, and air travel requires special precautions. Regular preventive veterinary visits are essential for this breed.
Health and predispositions
Brachycephalic airway syndrome (breathing difficulty), spinal problems and disc herniation, high heat sensitivity, and frequent need for cesarean delivery due to the shape of the mother's pelvis and the puppies' heads. Always consult a veterinarian for the preventive exams appropriate for this breed.
