About the Siberian

A natural breed from Russia, with historical records going back centuries, developed without direct human intervention to survive Siberia's extremely harsh climate — its dense, triple, water-resistant coat is a direct evolutionary adaptation to that hostile environment.

Despite its large, sturdy build, it's a surprisingly agile cat, capable of very high jumps and impressive athleticism, a legacy of its past as a hunter in the wild. It has an affectionate, loyal, and playful temperament, forming strong bonds with its family.

It's especially popular among people with mild cat allergies, since studies indicate the breed produces lower amounts of the Fel d1 protein (the main feline allergen, found in saliva), though this doesn't mean total hypoallergenicity. Another quirk of the breed is its affinity for water, an unusual behavior among most domestic cats.

Health and predispositions

Predisposition to hypertrophic cardiomyopathy; considered the cat breed closest to "hypoallergenic," since it produces lower levels of the Fel d1 protein, though no cat is entirely allergy-free. Always consult a veterinarian for the preventive exams appropriate for this breed.
