About the Turkish Angora
One of the oldest long-haired cat breeds in the world, originating in the Anatolia region of present-day Turkey, historically associated with white cats with heterochromatic eyes (one blue, one amber) kept in Ottoman mosques and palaces as prized pets.
Unlike other long-haired breeds, its coat is fine and silky without a thick undercoat, which means it mats far less and needs much lighter maintenance than breeds like the Persian or Maine Coon, despite being long-haired.
It's an active, curious, and quite vocal cat that likes to be involved in household activities and forms strong bonds with its owners, often picking one favorite person within the family. Solid-white individuals with blue eyes have a higher incidence of congenital deafness, a well-documented and relatively common genetic trait in that color pattern.
Health and predispositions
Predisposition to congenital deafness associated with an all-white coat and blue eyes, and to hypertrophic cardiomyopathy. Always consult a veterinarian for the preventive exams appropriate for this breed.
